Thoracic Outlet Syndrome: Symptoms, Causes & Effective Treatment

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome is a condition that commonly occurs from postural imbalance.   The symptoms can be pain with numbness and tingling into the hands and arms.  Carpal Tunnel syndrome can also have similar symptoms.

Work positions play a vital role in the onset of TOS.  Anytime that the arms are out in front of the body and the shoulders are rounded forward the symptoms can appear.   If the head is out in front of the body (the ear in front of the shoulder) this can also play a factor.

Carpal Tunnel is brought on by the wrists being in a flexed position (typing), or gripping tools for an extended period.

In most work environments these neck and arm postures are common.  Sitting in front of a computer, driving a car, and using tools can all cause this postural imbalance.

At The Center For Manual Medicine and Regenerative Orthopedics we treat TOS and Carpal Tunnel with a very high rate of success.  This is due to the combination of manipulation with specific rehabilitative exercises.  By implementing the exercises into your activities of daily living you can continue to benefit from the treatments you receive at our office.
